Viceroy’s House – 22 February 2017

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this film.  As a foreigner I am not that familiar with the history behind the British rule in India, although I have watched bits and pieces when BBC put on a series like Indian Summers, but that is probably it.

Generally an interesting take on the time the British were arranging to hand India back to its people and the struggle they had in doing so.  British statesman Lord Mountbatten serves as India’s last Viceroy and that was his responsibility. There’s some beautiful scenery and colourful characters in the film but I have to say Gillian Anderson is amazing as the new Viceroy’s very British wife. There is a romantic storyline which was very sweet but predictable.

It felt like a history lesson rather than a epic film to me so I found myself feeling bored at parts.  You should watch this film at some point as I feel it’s an important part of history. But I don’t think I would watch it again.
